The primary reason why tourists flock to Hurghada is to go scuba diving. This city is one of the famous gateway’s to the Red Sea, one of the prime diving destinations of the world. However, visitors who have no prior experience in scuba diving need not fret or worry on missing out all the underwater fun. Though this type of tourist always has the option of going snorkeling, the more adventurous ones can avail themselves of their PADI Open water course while visiting Hurghada, to have that one of a kind scuba diving experience.

There are a lot of diving centers located near to or right on the shores of Hurghada and all are certified by major recreational diving training organizations such as the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). All of these instructors have undergone rigorous and lengthy training to get themselves certified to teach diving courses. Still, it would do anyone interested in trying out scuba diving to check the credentials of the chosen dive center, just to be sure.

Practically anybody beyond the age of 10 can undergo the PADI Open water course in Hurghada, as long as the person has no medical preclusions. Some dive centers, however, impose an older minimum age requirement, so prospective diving students should make inquiries beforehand. Skills in swimming are also required. Though there are other short time course offered for a day or two. However, to really enjoy the widely diverse marine life found beneath the Red Sea and maximize the fun, visitors who can spare the time and money your starting point should be the PADI Open water course.

There is no fixed rate known for this scuba diving course, as some dive centers may charge less or more than its competitors, and may include some small perks like hotel pickups and wide choices of food served during boat trips. However, most open water course lasts 4-5 days, consisting of dives in confined waters and in the open sea. Most diving course fees already include the equipments used throughout the training.

After enrolling on your PADI Open water course in Hurghada you will start with classroom lessons within the premises of the dive center selected. During these sessions, student divers get to know the basics in diving and safety underwater. Every student gets a manual and views video chapters on the different topics covered. The different types of equipment and its proper uses are also elaborated. To make sure the student understands everything he or she has learned in the classroom, all lessons are applied in confined water sessions. This is to ensure easy transition from an academic ambiance to the actual scuba diving. As mentioned before Swimming skills are also evaluated. The diving instructor accompanies the student all throughout the training, and facilitates the actual dives. Most courses entail four actual dives to different sites, to maximize the enjoyment and experience of each student. These dives are usually done in shallow waters the first 2 dives a maximum of 12 Meters and the final 2 dives to a maximum of 18 Meters, as open water course students still need to develop their skills in underwater navigation and buoyancy.

As a final test to complete the theory you will also complete a final exams to determine how much og the theory the student has ‘kept in’, those who complete the course satisfactorily will get their certifications from the respective diving organization whose training course they used. They can now call themselves a certified PADI Open Water Diver and can go back to Hurghada or elsewhere to explore underwater delights as often as they want.

In fact, the Red Sea is one of the top destinations of any dedicated scuba diving enthusiast from any part of the world. And for those who have achieved their open water diving certification course through major international recreational diving organizations like PADI or NAUI, they can now avail of their Advanced Course.

Anyone possessing the necessary requirements and are 12 years old or more can avail themselves of the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. Those who have procured their open water certification elsewhere should need to bring and produce necessary documents to verify they are fit and suitable to take this advanced course. All dive centers in Hurghada have certified diving instructors who posses expertise in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of each student.

Fees for the PADI Advanced Course in Hurghada vary slightly from one dive center to another, though most of these courses are Five Dives over a maximum of three days and are inclusive of all the equipments during the whole course. Students of this course get to try several diving specialties, like Underwater Navigation and Deep Diving are compulsory. Deep dives are done up to a depth of 30 meters, where students get to try navigating with and without a compass. Different techniques are also taught on how to measure the time spent underwater. Students of the PADI Advanced course can also get to experience night diving. This activity is quite exciting and particularly unforgettable for first timers. It is during night dives that they will get to see several marine organisms providing peculiar lights of their own. Some dive centers even accommodate preferences of students to go night diving in special sites like ship wrecks. During this dive, students also get to know how to properly handle night lights.

Apart from the above-mentioned compulsory dives, students have the option of having three more dives, depending on what’s offered by the dive center they selected. Most dive centers offer boat dives, drift dives, dry suit dive, peak performance buoyancy, underwater videography, using a diver propulsion vehicle, search and recovery dive, underwater photography, fish identification, and, of course, wreck dive.

When diving further offshore, most students of this course also get to try and experience the different techniques of getting off and getting back on the boat with their diving gear on.

When students get their certification for the PADI Advance Open Water Diver course, they not only achieve advancement in their level of diving expertise, they also gain further confidence in going scuba diving with only a buddy and not rely on an instructor.

Apart from the usual advance courses in Hurghada, there is also the advance open water diving plus course offered by PADI, in which a Medic First Aid course is incorporated into the lesson. This is particularly useful to those planning on advancing to Rescue Diver course.

Those who have no prior diving experience and can only spend no more than two or three days in Hurghada have the option of taking the PADI Scuba Diver course. This is one course designed for those who wished to experience a trip underwater without having to go through lengthy training. Diving at this level requires the constant supervision of a certified divemaster or instructor. For those below 15 years of age, there is the PADI Junior Scuba Diver course.

For those wishing to go further, they have the option of taking the PADI Open Water Diver Course. This course usually last for 4-5 days and students get certified after completing it satisfactorily. This course comprises of classroom sessions, diving in confined waters, and several dive trips out in the sea. For those younger than 15 but are still interested in getting certified, there’s also the PADI Junior Open Water course.

After completing the PADI Open Water Diver Course, interested individuals can proceed to enroll on PADI Adventure Dive’s or the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver. These courses do not entail lengthy classroom discussions and go right to the fun part, actual diving. This course is designed to further enhance and hone the diving skills of participants. For two days, students of this course get to choose three specialties to try (in addition to the compulsory Underwater Navigation and Deep dives), depending on the ones offered by the selected dive center. And with numerous dive sites available in Hurghada and nearby areas, there is no shortage of destinations to visit.

Next in line when it comes to PADI courses in Hurghada is the PADI Rescue Diver course, about 4-5 days. This specialized course offers training in recognizing potentially dangerous situations and teaches ways of preventing them. This course also provides knowledge on search and recovery techniques when underwater and on how to provide emergency care. There is also the PADI Junior Rescue Diver course.

The next level up would be the PADI Divemaster course, and is designed for those seriously thinking of turning this particular recreation into a career. Comprising of multiple modules, this course usually takes anywhere from 9 Day’s (PADI minimum required hours) up to 30 days to complete.
